Adobe CEO Shantanu Narayen

He tends to live a quiet life not unless when drawn into the deep waters of business lawsuit at times. Among the Silicon Valley greats it is not possible to leave him out. If you do you will have made a great mistake since he is currently the Chief Executives Officer (CEO) of Adobe Systems besides being the president to the board at Adobe Foundation. As if that is not enough, he is an appointed member of president Barrack Obama’s Management Advisory Board. This is just a very short and unsatisfactory introduction of the 50 years old Shantanu Narayen.

Early Life

The CEO got his first degree, Bachelor of Science in Electronic Engineering, from the University of Osmania, India. He seems to have had a divergent source of inspiration from both parents. His academic prowess seems to have had something to do with his mother who taught American literature. His interest in company work was probably a product of desire to be like his father who ran a plastics company. Although born in Hyderabad in India from where he attended a public school, Shantanu went on to further his studies in U.S.A after his basic degree. He currently holds a Masters in Business Administration from the University of California, Berkeley and a Masters in Science, Computer Science, from Bowling Green University in Ohio. On the 7th of May 2011, Bowling Green University awarded him with a honorary degree – Doctor of Applied Sciences.

Shantanu Narayen Career

His career is well mapped out. Previously he has worked at Apple. He also had a hand in pioneering of digital photo sharing via the internet. He did this through, Pictra Inc. , a company that he co-founded. Before then he had worked at Silicon Graphics as the director of desktop and collaboration products. It is interesting to note that he later came to be involved in a business foul play with his former employers, Apple, after the Apple’s ipad failed to play videos in flash, the latter of which is a product of Adobe. This was seen as a business strategy to enable Apple take over Adobe and Shantanu wasn’t pleased.
Shanatanu Narayen sits on several boards including Pzifer Inc. ,The Haas Business School’s advisory board and the University of California, Berkeley. He has previously been a board member at Dell Inc.

He has also been involved in philanthropy through the Adobe Foundation which he is the president. His $875 000 annual salary doesn’t thus seem to be such a great force as his dedication to work and philanthropy.
They say that all work and no play makes Jack and dull boy. This is no exception to the man who has been on the forefront in ensuring the world has the best in technology alongside others in the industry such as the late Steve Jobs. When not thinking about technology or business you will find him busy on the golf course or the tennis court busy with his favorite sport. If not so you may find him reading at his home in Palo Alto, California, together with his wife Reni with whom they have two sons.
